The Price of a First Date Surprise

On our first date on June 16, 2025, we visited a classy restaurant. As we sat, she smiled at the waiter and asked, “What’s the most expensive dish on your menu?” My heart sank. I was ready to pay for dinner but hadn’t planned for a meal that could break me. The waiter froze, glanced at me, and said, “Our finest lobster, sir, at $150.” Panic set in as I realized my budget wouldn’t stretch that far. She laughed, saying, “Just kidding! Let’s get the pasta—it’s only $25.” Relieved, I exhaled, grateful for her playful twist. We enjoyed a delightful meal, sharing stories and

laughter, the tension dissolving. Later, I learned she’d noticed my unease and chose affordability to ease my mind. That night, walking her home, I thanked her, and she winked, “Next time, I’ll pick the place.” It marked the start of a relationship built on humor and understanding, proving love thrives beyond price tags.
