The Secret in the Snow Globe

Inside the base, I found a small, weathered envelope tucked beneath the felt lining. My heart raced as I carefully opened it, revealing a delicate, handwritten note from my mum. The paper, yellowed with age, carried her familiar cursive: “My dearest, this globe holds a piece of my love for you. Open it when you need me most.” Tears welled up as I realized she had hidden this message, a final embrace across time. Enclosed was a tiny locket with a photo of us together,

her smiling warmly. My daughter, wide-eyed, asked what it was. I explained how this gift, untouched for over 20 years, now connected us to her grandmother’s memory. We placed the locket back, sealed the base, and decided to treasure it together. That rattling sound, once a mystery, became a gentle reminder of love enduring. Last month, on May 12, 2025, we shook it again, listening to the soft echo, feeling her presence anew.
