Little girl who looked 8 months’ pregnant because of deadly disease is saved thanks to dad’s kidney donation
Every parent dreams of a healthy, happy life for their children. Karen Rodas and Paul Bybkin experienced heartbreak when their son, Nathaniel, was born with Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) and passed away after just 36 hours. In 2013, the couple welcomed a daughter, Maddy, who was also diagnosed with PKD. Her swollen tummy and constant hospital visits left her parents devastated. However, hope arrived when her father, Paul, turned out to be a kidney match and donated one of his kidneys to save her life.
The surgery was a success, and Maddy transformed into a happy, energetic two-year-old. “Daddy’s kidney saved our little girl,” Karen shared. Paul humbly added, “It’s part of being a parent.” Though Maddy may need another transplant in the future, her family cherishes the years of happiness ahead. This inspiring story reminds us of the power of love and sacrifice.
