Church Leaders Urge Calm and Resilience in Sermons Following Trump’s Accident

Less than 24 hours after a suspected assassination attempt on Donald Trump at a Pennsylvania rally, pastors nationwide addressed shaken congregations. At Visalia Christian Reformed Church in California, Rev. Joel Renkema called the incident a “trumpet blast” warning against divisive political rhetoric, urging parishioners to stop “hating and demonizing” opponents. In Pittsburgh, Rev. Kris Stubna of St. Paul Cathedral expressed horror at the event. While Trump, seen as a messianic figure by some evangelical supporters, did not attend church, he reportedly felt “spiritual” about surviving, viewing it as a “gift from God.” Responses varied across Christian communities, with some evangelical leaders subtly referencing “enemies” and others, tied to the New Apostolic Reformation, openly declaring spiritual warfare against Trump’s opponents.
