Farewell Dr. Jill

First Lady Jill Biden has taught her final class at Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA), concluding a 15-year tenure and a 40-year teaching career. During a virtual event honoring educators, she called being First Lady “the honor of my life,” but teaching “the work of my life.” NOVA President Anne Kress praised Biden as an exceptional faculty member, leaving a lasting legacy at community colleges. As the first U.S. First Lady to maintain a full-time job outside the White House, Biden balanced teaching English and writing with her national duties. Her career began in 1976, teaching high school English, working as a reading specialist, and later at a psychiatric hospital. She earned a doctorate in educational leadership and taught at Delaware Technical Community College before joining NOVA in 2009. Whether she will fully retire from teaching is unclear, but her career reflects a deep commitment to education and a unique legacy as both a national figure and dedicated educator.
