Glenn Gordon Caron Says Bruce Willis Isn’t

‘Totally Verbal’ But ‘He’s Still Bruce’ Amid Dementia Battle

Bruce Willis was nearly 30 when he landed the role of David Addison Jr. in Moonlighting (1985-1989), beating over 3,000 actors for the part. The role launched his career, earning him a Golden Globe, a People’s Choice Award, and an Emmy nomination. Over the next three decades, Willis became a Hollywood icon with hits like Die Hard, Pulp Fiction, Armageddon, and The Sixth Sense.

Now 68, Willis was diagnosed with aphasia in 2022 and frontotemporal dementia in 2023. Despite his worsening condition, he’s supported by fans, friends, and family. Moonlighting creator Glenn Gordon Caron, 69, visits Willis monthly and recently discussed the show streaming on Hulu. Caron notes Willis is excited about it, though communication is difficult due to his condition. Willis struggles with language and reading, but his spirit remains, supported by his wife, Emma, and daughters, Rumer, Scout, and Tallulah. Caron finds Willis’ condition “mind-blowing,” given his once-vibrant “joie de vivre.”
