The 48-year-old kept her diagnosis private, sharing it only with family and co-star Brian Austin Green. Doherty spoke out ahead of a legal battle with her insurance company, State Farm, over damages from the 2018 California wildfires, wanting to control her own narrative. She returned to work on the 90210 reboot months after the sudden death of her friend Luke Perry in March 2019, aiming to honor him and show that people with stage four cancer can still live actively.
