The Truth Behind the Door

curled up on her bed, fast asleep, with her boyfriend sitting on the floor, reading a book. A half-finished board game sat between them, and the dim lamp cast a soft glow over the peaceful scene. My heart, which had been racing with worry, slowed down as I realized they’d just been hanging out, probably talking and playing until she dozed off.

He looked up, a bit startled, and whispered, “She fell asleep an hour ago—I didn’t want to wake her.” I smiled, feeling a mix of relief and embarrassment for my wild imagination. “Thanks for looking out for her,” I whispered back, stepping out and closing the door softly. As I walked away, I chuckled to myself, grateful she’d found such a kind friend, and made a mental note to trust her a little more next time.
