The Unsolved Mystery of the Midnight Text

I woke at 3 a.m. to 12 missed calls from Mom and a text: “I got robbed! Come fast!” I raced to her house. She denied sending it, showing me an unsent message warning of robberies near my town. If she didn’t send the text or call, who did? Uneasy, I stayed an hour, then drove home.

My front door was ajar; inside, my place was trashed—valuables gone. A chill hit me: coincidence or a trap? Someone might’ve used Mom’s phone to lure me out. Too rattled to stay, I sold the house and moved weeks later, still haunted by the mystery.
