Figure skating sisters Everly, 14, and Alydia Livingston, 11, were among those who died in the recent American Airlines crash near Washington, D.C. The girls had just competed in the U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Wichita and were flying home with their parents, Peter and Donna Livingston, when the plane collided with an Army Black Hawk helicopter.

The Livingston family was deeply involved in figure skating, with Everly a sectional champion and Alydia a rising ice dancer. Their mother, Donna, stayed closely connected with family friend Cassandra Atkins, who designed their skating outfits. “Donna was the most perfect mom. Those girls were her whole universe,” Atkins recalled.

The crash, which occurred on January 29 near Reagan Washington National Airport, claimed 64 lives, including several figure skating athletes, coaches, and family members. US Figure Skating released a statement expressing devastation over the loss.

Authorities, including the FAA and NTSB, continue to investigate the incident.
