Mother, daughter killed after deer smashes through windshield in North Carolina on Christmas
It happened just before 10 p.m. Wednesday along Gold Hill Road.
CABARRUS COUNTY, N.C. — A mother and daughter died after a crash in Cabarrus County, North Carolina unfolded on Christmas. Investigators said it was because a deer that was hit by another car broke through their own windshield.
North Carolina State Highway Patrol said troopers were called to the scene along Gold Hill Road just before 10 p.m. Wednesday for what was initially reported as a two-car crash. The agency said its investigation revealed further details about what exactly happened.
Troopers said a driver heading southwest on Gold Hill Road hit a deer, sending the animal left of the center line. The deer, however, hit a car driven by 31-year-old Melissa Ann Mullis with her 12-year-old daughter Carson Cummings inside.
The deer smashed through the car’s windshield. Both Mullis and Cummings were pronounced dead at the scene. Troopers said everyone involved in the crash was wearing a seat belt at the time. No charges have been filed in this case.
Cabarrus County is located about 24 miles northeast of Charlotte.
